Handle / Poignée imagine un cadre politique afin d’analyser et de rétablir les relations entre les libéraux et les conservateurs. Pour cette minutieuse performance de danse/installation filmée, qui respire nettement l’esthétique du Bauhaus, Laser se fonde sur le linguiste George Lakoff. Dans « Moral Politics: How Liberals and Conservatives Think » (1996), celui-ci utilise un modèle familial pour décrire les dynamiques à l’œuvre entre les politiques et les citoyens. Ce modèle se compose de 4 archétypes : le parent autoritaire, le parent attentionné, l’enfant obéissant et l’enfant rebelle. Ce « tutoriel » emmène les spectateurs dans quatre séquences de mouvements thérapeutiques, qui, chacun, autonomisent un des quatre différents types de personnalité.
La vidéo et la performance ont été élaborées à l’aide d’ateliers avec des thérapeutes par la danse. Les costumes, absolument somptueux, ont été conçus par la marque conceptuelle Slow and Steady Wins the Race, connue pour sa recherche des éléments de base que nous portons.
