The Senegalese singer, Seydina Diop, grew up in a Griot family, a West-African caste of poets and musicians. Music is really in his blood. In 1999 he decided to quit his job as a bus driver and set his heart on a musical career. Three albums later, including one produced by the universally known Youssou N’Dour, he can be seen at this Showcase with his group Keur Gui, which means ‘hospitality’ in Wolof. With its Mbalax music the group performs a stirring mix of Griot percussion, Afro-Cuban rhythms, reggae and funk.
