The desert: the grim synonym for infinite Sahara sand, sweltering heat and the hypnotic desert rock of Terakaft (Tamasheq for caravan)! In 2001, Tuareg Sanou Ag Ahmed, one of the original members of Tinariwen, was at Terakaft’s cradle, together with his uncle Liya Ag Ablil (a.k.a. Diara) who, in turn, was part of Tinariwen for a full twenty years. Harsh conditions sculpted the Terakaft riffs into a wild and free desert sound: a robust shot trance, rock and psychedelic that is best experienced live. Two rhythm guitars, perfectly balanced, are reminiscent of a camel striding through the desert. Terakaft sends you on a trip through the desert’s deepest heart, with the rhythmic beat of the percussion as hypnotic pulse.
