BEURSSCHOUWBURG is looking for a TECHNICAL COORDINATOR
Beursschouwburg is a multidisciplinary arts centre located in the heart of Brussels. Beursschouwburg functions as a platform for the presentation and development of diverse artistic practices and research; a network in which experimentation and support for (young) artists, collectives and thinkers are central; a hub that questions normativity and welcomes new stories. Beursschouwburg is looking for a driven and enthusiastic colleague to oversee the technical coordination of the programme and support the technical team.
What will you do?
As a technical coordinator, you are responsible for the technical implementation of the multidisciplinary programme. You create a framework that allows partners and artists to realize their project in Beursschouwburg in the best possible conditions. In consultation with the programming and production teams, you ensure a feasible planning for our events and residencies. You are the point of contact for technical questions from artists, partners and colleagues; and conversely, you inform all those involved about the technical course of the activities. You guide, motivate and support our three-person technical team with a respectful and equal approach. You are responsible for the staff planning of the technical team and remain actively on site during public activities. Together with your team, you guarantee the correct use, maintenance and inventory of the technical stage infrastructure and equipment. You also have access to a budget to purchase and maintain the equipment. Investments in technical equipment are part of a multi-year plan and are to be discussed with the artistic and business directors. You are a member of the organisation's middle management (‘the staff’) and the internal committee that oversees well-being and safety at work. Within these two consultative bodies, you are actively involved in the organisation's policy-making and development.
Profile
- You are excited about Beursschouwburg's vibe and programme and hold Brussels dear.
- You have a very broad knowledge of current and future stage techniques, ideally with a few years' experience in a similar position. - You have good people skills and communicate clearly, positively and openly
- You feel comfortable in a coaching role, work in a proactive and structured way and enjoy taking initiative.
- You act solution- and result-oriented and you’re not afraid to take responsibility
- You are insightful about the artistic process and able to think constructively about a project with artists and colleagues.
- You are prepared to work flexible hours including on the weekend and evenings.
- You speak and write Dutch fluently and can express yourself well in French and in English.
More about beursschouwburg
The building, located on Auguste Ortsstraat, comprises four presentation spaces: the café (capacity 250), the concert hall (capacity 178), the theatre (capacity 134) and a small cinema (capacity 30). The exhibition space is located on the side of the building, on the Karperbrug. In cooperation with the Flemish government, Beursschouwburg is working on future-proofing its infrastructure. A transformation is planned for 2027. The ambition is to make Beursschouwburg fundamentally more sustainable and to develop the building to be independent of fossil fuels. At the same time, internal audience flows, acoustic insulation and capacities will be optimized. With the construction of the pedestrian zone and the renovation of the Beurs building further down the road, special momentum has been created to consolidate Beursschouwburg's anchoring in the neighbourhood, with plans providing a café on the street.
