The remembered film observeert piepjonge soldaten van voorbije oorlogen die dwalen door een bos. Ze zijn alleen, met twee of drie en dragen uniformen van Sovjettroepen, de Wehrmacht of Amerikanen in de Vietnamoorlog. De observaties worden afgewisseld met interviews waarbij de soldaten verhalen vertellen over het redden en het verlies van strijdmakkers of over wraakacties. Oorlogsherinneringen die ze onmogelijk zelf kunnen hebben meegemaakt, maar die zich wel hebben genesteld in hun geheugen. De grens tussen oorlog en spektakel, geschiedenis en representatie, werkelijkheid en verbeelding blijkt behoorlijk dun.
