Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S.) is a queer, feminist sound system collective from London, founded in 2018 by Black and POC queer and trans artists, DJs, and activists. Channeling Caribbean sound system traditions and UK club DIY spirit, they use music as a tool for resistance, healing, and collective joy. With their mobile sound system, they organise parties, protests, and educational events that bridge club culture, activism, and art. In 2021, they were nominated for the Turner Prize but simultaneously voiced criticism of the institution behind the prestigious award. Staying true to their values of community, B.O.S.S. creates inclusive spaces that centre Black, queer, and trans voices, reinterpreting the sound system tradition in a way that feels more urgent than ever. Today two members of the collective – one DJ, one MC – are bringing this energy to the street in front of our Beursschouw-door, where they will play on the Pssound system.

Born in the mystical snow-covered Japanese countryside, via Boston and Brooklyn, Shoko Igarashi landed in Brussels in 2018 and has since then made her mark as an innovative musician and composer. By combining her saxophone and traditional wooden flutes with synths and other electronics, she crafts colourful songs that feel astonishingly natural, influenced by Japanese City-Pop, '70s jazz fusion and video game & anime film scores. Her debut album Simple Sentences was produced by Belgian synth-legend Dan Lacksman (founder of Telex) and released in 2022 by Paris label Tigersushi. In December 2024 they also released her second album Onsen Music, an ode to spa-relaxation and (re)introducing Shoko as an equally accomplished vocalist. What more can we wish for after a long day of love-rage-protesting in the streets?

From some secret cave deep underneath the Brussels’ scene for experimental music, creep.exe is a regular Kiosk critter (often together with sophew, under the moniker of MESSe BASSe) who is making the rounds with her percussion-heavy selections of electronic body music, UK garage, jersey club and more unclassifiable rhythms. She draws on her practice of electroacoustic composition to add rich alienated textures, speech and other whimsical surprises to the mix, imbuing club dancefloors and exalted backrooms with a shared and sensual silliness that serves one purpose and one purpose only — dance, comrades, dance!!

about

PSST MLLE is an intersectional feminist platform standing for more inclusion and representation in nightlife and music. They aim to create tools to support MaGe* artists and cultural workers, while paying great attention to racial and economical discriminations. Their events question the codes of nightlife and deconstruct the dance floor. Besides, they try to tackle discrimination at its roots through workshops, conversations and more. Beursschouwburg is very happy and proud that Psst Mlle is one of its associated artists for 2024-2026.
