While building on very diverse traditions, both Miriam and Robert are singular musicians with expressive, constantly mutable voices, who manage to connect to something inside of us all by singing intriguing, thoughtfully imagistic lyrics and playing their instruments in both odd and familiar tunings.

Miriam Elhajli
Improviser, poet-vocalist, Numina Records label founder, and scholar Miriam Elhajli is based out of Flatbush, Brooklyn (USA). Her nuanced work is influenced equally by her Venezuelan and Moroccan heritage, the history of traditional South American farming techniques, and her musicological research at The Association for Cultural Equity. The result is multifaceted and thoughtful with a distinctive sound that draws equally on jazz, 70s South American nuevo cancion and levantine sounds, borrowing from Appalachian country tunes, agitprop spoken word, Argentinian zamba, and much more.

Robert Edmondson
Robert Edmondson’s limited solo output continues to hone his interest in singular harmonic development, and the friction between melody and meaning. Due out in the beginning of March, his first solo release, The Waltz, interrogates his addiction to 3/4 time. He is one half of the songwriting duo with his brother, Edmondson, whose follow up record, Bughouse, will be released in April. He is also a member of improvisational electro-jazz group, A Family Portrait. Robert teaches music in Gainesville, Florida (USA).
