Yodeling is not just a Swiss thing!
Language no problem
Programme:
- Bart Plantenga (NL) will present a lively video lecture, which will cover many corners of the yodeling world.
- Voice artist Phil Minton (UK) is known for his exuberant and provocative vocals, which often includes his trademark avant-garde version of Welsh yodeling with that glottal twist. He'll surprise you with his yodel version of John Cage's famous Mesostics.
- Bernhard Betschart (CH) and Karin Gwerder (CH) present 'naturjodels' from their native Muotathal in Switzerland, where yodeling is passed on from generation to generation. Bernhard's father appeared in some of Hugo Zemp's famous yodel documentaries and Cyrill Schläpfer's Ur-Musig. He will give a demonstration of various Yuutzes.
- Myriam van Imschoot (BE) & Doreen Kutzke (DE) perform "HOLA HU", a duet composition for 2 yodelers in which a yodel phrase is consistently deconstructed and reconstructed from its smallest micro-elements.
- Myriam Van Imschooot presents YOUYOUYOU, a performance in which 10 Brussels women sing the arabic yodel, the zaghareet (in french 'you you'). Quite a hallucinating situation!
