When facing erasure ...
Looking it in the eye, not avoiding it, and rehearsing ways to resist it together.
When facing erasure…
We fear, freeze, hide, and ignore.
We rest, remember, learn and unlearn.
We adapt, care, heal.
We gather, connect, listen, document, and forget .
We imagine, strategize, preserve, build and rebuild.
We create, protect, teach.
We resist, refuse, fight, shout, and transform.
We endure, return, and persist.
When Facing Erasure… is a multidisciplinary program curated by artist, filmmaker, and sound designer Victoire Karera Kampire. It explores our intuitive and often fragile responses to processes of erasure – forms of systematic violence that seek to suppress, disappear, or rewrite lives, histories, and presences.
Rather than offering conclusions, the program opens a space for listening, attention, and proximity. Bringing together sound works, audiovisual pieces, performances, as well as talks and readings, the program features contributions by Jennifer Izere, Mahlet Cuff, Maxime Jean-Baptiste, among others.
