A story where bodies meet infrastructures
In her work The Ferris wheel turns when the wind blows, Sana introduces us to the private property of a historical figure: a particular plot of land located in the Evin neighbourhood, stretching from the northwest of Tehran to the foot of the Alborz mountains. Blurring the line between fact and fiction, she invites us to follow new narratives through this urban fabric.
Fusing architectural reading, interpersonal storytelling and public space imaginaries, Sana Ghobbeh’s work creates interactions between particular architectural elements and a performer, disrupting urban space and transforming it into an evolving context of engagement. While questioning the relationships between historical events, and discovering small actions able to shake the stability of architectural elements that favour oppression, subtle counteractions are developed through poetry, imagination and fabulation.
This performance is part of her long term research “Performing Spaces — an exploration on urban structures and their inner-narratives”.

Sana Ghobbeh is an Iranian-born artist and art researcher based in Brussels. She studied architecture in Tehran and received a master’s degree in Fine Arts in Sweden. Sana worked as a research assistant at Umeå University of Architecture between 2013 and 2015, and was part of the research environment of a.pass in Brussels in 2016.
