SA 12.09.2015 11:00 - 13:00

Two panels will reassess the shifting roles of artists, galleries and institutions at once from a local and an international perspective.

Organisation: Caroline Dumalin and Helena Kritis

Programme:

►11:00 – 11:45: Galleries and the Economy of Conceptual Art

The first panel presents a historical take on the (critical) role of galleries in Brussels versus its periphery, and zooms in on a certain provincialism in the Conceptual art of the seventies. Artist-run space apes&castles was invited to elaborate on its near-institutional type of exhibition, based on the recently published book by art critic Laurence Pen Des stratégies obliques. Une histoire des conceptualismes en Belgique (Presses Universitaires de Rennes).

Speakers: Jacques Charlier and Laurence Pen
Moderated by: Koen Brams
In collaboration with: apes&castles

Spoken language: French

►11:45 – 12:00 Coffee break

►12:00 – 12:45 When Artists Make Institutions

The second panel is founded on Aleppo’s two-day programme of workshops and screenings titled The Use of the Use, which reflects on a certain return to order in the current political and artistic landscape. The focus, here, lies on an on-going global phenomenon in the visual and performing arts: the creation of institutions through artistic projects.

Speakers: Matteo Lucchetti, Marinella Senatore and Jozef Wouters
Introduction by: Daniel Blanga-Gubbay
In collaboration with: Aleppo

Spoken language: English
