film

Frantz Fanon works at the Blida-Joinville psychiatric hospital where he tries to treat Algerians suffering from cultural alienation. At the same time, the war of independence is spreading and beginning to affect his department as well.

aftertalk

The discussion will revolve around Frantz Fanon’s psychiatric practice and the questions it raises for rethinking care, madness, and the welcoming of intense psychological experiences. Drawing on some of his writings, they will open up a reflection on the possibility of providing care differently, beyond the lens of a psychiatry focused on illness to be contained or eradicated.

In collaboration with L’Autre “lieu”.
Founded in Brussels in 1980, L’Autre “lieu” is a pioneering association for alternatives to psychiatry. It develops a critical approach to mental health by examining the links between madness, care, and society, and offers spaces for support and reception outside institutional frameworks, focused on lived experience and collective engagement.

about

Hors-d'oeuvre is a series by nadjim bigou-fathi and soto labor through which they wish to share films they have come across during their artistic research. These screenings will lead to an open discussion between speakers and members of the public. This invitation aims to reflect collectively on issues such as managing our narratives, the conditions under which they are produced and the power relationships they imply.

NADJIM BIGOU-FATHI (1990, FR) is a designer, visual artist and performer. He is interested in the emergence of boundaries – from walls to words – and the normative, territorial or authoritarian dynamics that underpin them. Through curatorial, sculptural and performance projects, he examines situations of expectation and anticipation, questioning the power relations between participants.
