Marios Bellas + Cayla J w/ Stoemp!
Hip hop that breaks down walls. Soul that is so personal it feels universal. Served tonight on a hearty plate of Brussels energy.
Marios Bellas
Marios Bellas is a Greek-Dutch rapper, actor and director who has called Brussels his home since 2016. The sharp social criticism in tracks such as Brussel and FUCK DE BUREAUCRATEN was elevated to an even higher and more urgent level on his debut album Honger. His raw personal and political storytelling on a wide range of instrumentals – from heavy drums and guitars to bouzouki and old-school boombap – breathe new life into Dutch-language hip hop. And that really comes to life on stage. Bellas draws on his experience in productions by KVS and Théâtre National, among others, from his own music theatre/hip-hop ritual Vier Muren, as a member of the stage collective SOCHA and as a member of the punk rap group State Collapse (who performed at AB in January for Stadskankers FXCK OFF 50 years of dissent punk party). Marios is living proof that hip hop can still touch, challenge and resonate, time and time again.

Calya J.
Calya J., born Jessica Boyeleba Balehen, is an Antwerp-based singer, performer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Like Marios, Calya J. is a member of the SOCHA stage collective. Her own music moves between soul, rap and experimental, drawing on themes such as identity and personal growth. After numerous collaborations, both nationally and internationally, and an already impressive series of concerts (including here at Beursschouwburg in 2022!), Calya J. has new music to share. And where better than in the intimate darkness of the Beurscafé to get a first taste of it together?
