May, the month when the kunstenfestivaldesarts is held!
After studying classical and modern dance in Damascus, Mithkal Alzghair went on to study for a masters in choreographic studies in Montpellier, leaving him unable to return to Syria, his war-torn homeland.
In Displacement, he explores the torn identity of Syrian bodies through dance and movement, from the viewpoint of the political, social and religious conditions they experience. He breaks down and rebuilds his different heritages, the body of traditional dance, the body of trance, the military body, the body in war, the body in exile, and questions their mutual connections. Migrating from an isolated figure to a group of men, Displacement traces a possible trajectory towards the other. A powerful work, caught between the desire to stay and the desire to flee.
Meet the artists after the performance on 14/05
