In the spring of 2014 the Icelander Jóhanna Kristbjörg Sigurðardóttur was the first with a large-scale painting, in the autumn you saw work by the Scottish artist Fiona Mackay. During the celebration of 50 years Beursschouwburg, it was Julien Meerts name that you had to remember.
The artists we invite keep on getting younger. This time, we give Denie Put, a young artist from Antwerp, a carte blanche and paint brushes.
Young Belgian painter Denie Put (°1991) graduated in 2014 as a master in the art of painting at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten of Antwerp. Currently, he has a workspace in Borgerhout, were he’s steadily working on his future. You’ll recognize his work by its exuberant use of colour, the enormous agility of the imagery and a varied use of techniques. In his process, experiment and coincidence are very important. With an unrestrained urge to paint, he paints on every possible carrier and reacts to what is already at hand. Often, portraits and landscapes provide the (classic) starting point for his paintings. The result, though, is idiosyncratic and energetic and not easily catalogued as a specific genre.
