'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river. - The Clash
The young film student Wolfgang Büld travels to 1977’s London with his camera and primitive recording equipment and immerses himself in the punk subculture of underground clubs, old warehouses and front stores of record labels like Rough Trade.
The result is an unedited recording which shows the punk phenomenon in all its brutal strength and energy. Büld also manages to capture the discontent, anger and frustration which was seething under the surface and which, under Mararet Thatcher’s government would erupt in all its intensity onto the street.
This includes unique recordings of early performances bt The Clash, X-Ray Spex, The Jam, Boomtown Rats, The Adverts, The Lurkers and many others who were striving for Anarchy in the UK.
