Billie Kawende breathes new life into funk, soul and Motown
The musicland rumour mills are churning at full speed: people are talking about a great talent, ‘ready to jump’! Billie Kawende is the name of a young lady with Congolese roots. She grew up in a musical family, came into contact with hip-hop and R&B through her brothers and sisters, with gospel through evangelical church services and with great jazz vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and Sarah Vaughan through school music classes.
The combination of her fabulous voice and profound stage presence makes every performance an experience, with a nod to Africa. Kawende presents a mix of her own songs and covers (from Chaka Khan to Stevie Wonder), breathing new life into funk, soul and Motown.
Though only 23, the future is already looking bright for Billie Kawende.
