Mwmcreative is a London-based design and research studio founded in 2004 by Maria da Gandra and Maaike van Neck. Their ethos is informed through a combination of practice, teaching and research. In addition to teaching and client-driven work the studio initiates a range of collaborations, research projects, workshops and publications such as the recently published InformForm: Information design: in theory, an informed practice.
Maria da Gandra studied Graphic Design at the University of Glamorgan in Cardiff. She undertook her MA in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2004, where she also taught for 5 years. In 2011 she ran a short course on Information Design at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Maria currently teaches on the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.
Maaike van Neck studied Communication Design at the University of Portsmouth. She obtained a MA in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2004. Maaike spent 7 years as Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth teaching on the BA (Hons) and MA Graphic Design. She now teaches at Ravensbourne College, London, BA (Hons) Graphic Design.
Catalogtree is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Arnhem/NL. It was founded in 2001 by Daniel Gross and Joris Maltha who met at Werkplaats Typografie. The studio works continuously on commissioned and self initiated projects. Highly interested in self-organising systems they believe in ‘Form Equals Behaviour’. Experimental tool-making, programming, typography and the visualization of quantitative data are part of their daily routine.
Other recent endeavours include an interactive documentary for the iPad, a swarm of 21 bristle bots and a double pendulum gear clock. Amongst their clients are Phaidon Press, Vitra Design Museum, Architect Magazine and New York Times Magazine. Daniel and Joris are teaching at Design Academy’s Master course in Eindhoven/NL and are giving international workshops.
