A song of life, death and kittens.
In You Were an Amazement on the Day You Were Born, we follow the life of Leonore, from birth to death, through diary-like recollections. A female voice over narrates the piece with a dark, dry humour from the Sedaris school of biographical comedy. Poor Leonore’s early life is hampered by awkwardness, insecurity and fear, while her adult life is marred by shame, harassment and the suppressed anger of her youth. Her hate-love-hate relationship with life is explored with the self-reflective clarity and insight of Brené Brown but also mocked by an intermittent robotic voice that picks apart the trivialities of her human concerns: “BORING, BORING, BORING MADNESS.”
