When facing erasure ...
A multidisciplinary programme curated by associated artist Victoire Karera Kampire, to look it in the eye, not avoid it, and rehearse ways to resist it together.
When facing erasure…
We watch,
We freeze, We fear,
We ignore, We endure, We scream,
We listen,
We refuse, We breath,
We gather, We share,
We document,
We remember,
We care, We heal,
We rest,
We imagine,
We restore,
We keep watch, alternately, all at once, all together.
When Facing Erasure… is a multidisciplinary programme exploring both our intuitive and strategic responses to processes of erasure – suppression, disappearance and rewriting of lives, histories, and presences.
Curated by artist, filmmaker, and sound designer Victoire Karera Kampire, When Facing Erasure unfolds as a collective "night watch and listen", a space of attention and closeness—a communal invitation to practice, amid oblivion and a history that repeats itself, what the Rwandan writer Beata Umubyeyi calls “our duty of vigilance".
Bringing together sound works, audiovisual pieces, performances, as well as talks and readings, the program features contributions by Jennifer Izere, Mahlet Cuff, Subversive's film, Juliette Le Monnyer, Stephanie Kayal & Abed Kobeissy, Maxime Jean-Baptiste, Joachim Ben Yakoub, Revolutionary Dreamscape, and Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse.
Victoire Karera Kampire is one of Beursschouwburg's associated artists.
