Adriaan De Roover + Lieven Martens
Une lettre d'amour à cette ville. Une soirée dédiée à l'écoute.
€5 à la porte
Adriaan composes a live sound collage of STIKSTOF samples and a fieldrecording of his walk to Beursschouwburg a few hours earlier.
Lieven comes to talk (perform?) about the participatory method he developed for his research into the emotional and symbolic power of city soundscapes.
19:30 (open)
20:00 Soundvoice : Lieven Martens
21:00 Adriaan De Roover
23:30 (einde)
For Chansons de trottoir / Stoepliedjes, Adriaan de Roover starts with a record player, LPs by STIKSTOF and a recording of his walk from his home to the Beursschouwburg on the day of the concert. With these elements, he composes a live sound collage, as a unique performance of the work of the same name, which will be released on 17 March on Lieven Martens' record label Edições CN.
Between running a record label, working for a Congolese NGO and travelling the world to collaborate with other musicians and sound artists, Lieven Martens obtained a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Antwerp in 2025, with a research project on urban sounds beyond the culturally charged concepts of “silence” and “noise”. By allowing young people to record their own soundscapes and interviewing them about what these mean to them, a different city became audible, one in which the past, future, ecology and a sense of belonging resonate. Listening as a form of understanding, reclaiming, resistance.
about
Adriaan de Roover
Acclaimed composer and musician Adriaan de Roover treats music-making as a portal into self-discovery. Through subtle sonic transformations, each release marks his journey and embodies a new sound, feeling, or place that resonates with a specific period in time from his life. Chansons de trottoir / Stoepliedjes is a sonic portrait of a walk through Brussels. Embedded within these recordings are fragmented samples from three tracks by the Brussels hip-hop group STIKSTOF. Their music became the soundtrack to a period in which Adriaan’s desire to move from Antwerp to Brussels began to take shape. Through repeated listening, the city of Brussels gradually revealed itself to him. The album documents his relationship to sampling in the form of a radio play. It is an exploration of how one might find a personal place within the music of others. It frames appropriation as an attentive and considered act. Suspended between memory and imagination, the piece exists closer to a dream state than to reportage. Adriaan has a monthly slot on Kiosk Radio and previously released records on Dauw, VIERNULVIER, PIAS, and Consouling Sounds.

Lieven Martens
Lieven Martens is a composer and sound artist who treats sound, and music, as both material and conceptual framework. Under his own name and as Dolphins Into The Future, he has developed a distinctive voice in contemporary ambient & experimental music shaped by process, context, and speculative listening. In 2025 he completed a Master’s degree in Social Sciences and Welfare Studies, with a widely praised thesis on the social dimensions of the urban soundscape. His work is an invitation to open yourself to deep listening in places you would least expect.
On his label Edições CN, Lieven carefully crafts a unique world for the adventurous listener. Often blurring the lines between sound and music and between the traditional and the fictional, the various releases in the Edições catalogue showcase both Lieven’s own explorations and works by many like-minded artists such as Christina Vantzou, Sugai Ken, Andrew Pekler, Hiele, Francesco Cavaliere and more.
