Tonight’s lineup, hosted by Brussels label Toverberg, is a tribute to DJ Rashad, the footwork pioneer from Chicago. Crop Top Core will deconstruct and reinterpret his music into a (maybe) loud and (definitely) danceable celebration. De Schuurman and iced lattina will play an expect-the-unexpected blend of samples, rhythms and styles in DJ Rashad’s spirit, offering a fresh take on global clubbing sounds.

The influence of DJ Rashad remains inimitable. After founding the Teklife crew together with DJ Taye and DJ Spinn, his debut solo album Double Cup was released by the visionary Hyperdub label in 2013. Today it is regarded as his magnum opus and the seminal record that put footwork on the map of audiences worldwide as something nuanced and limitless. Due to its innovation and its use of samples, its impact is often compared to what sample-virtuoso J Dilla’s work meant for hip-hop. In 2014 DJ Rashad passed away much too soon, due to a drug overdose.

Crop Top Core is a sizzling hot new formation consisting of members of SCHNTZL (Casper Van de Velde), Vieze Meisje (Alan Van Rompuy a.k.a. Azertyklavierwerke), Brorlab (Sam De Clercq) and Fievel is Glaucque (Sylvain Haenen). Nobody really knows if they play free jazz post-hardcore improv or rather freestyle improv post-rave hard jazz, but some say it sounds like gabber music ripped to pieces with brute kicks, semi-soft melodies, unashamed synths and a fiery guitar.

De Schuurman
De Schuurman is today's no1 producer & dj putting bubbling back on the global clubbing map. Coming from a line of literal bubbling royalty, Dutch dj and producer Guillermo Schuurman has released two albums on the iconic Nyege Nyege Tapes: Bubbling Inside (2021) and more recently Bubbling Forever, an album that lets the generous Caribbean influences dance hand in hand with flute, woodblocks, rap samples and ATL trap. iced lattina
iced lattina (BE) – lower case please! – is the musical alias of Brussels-based BIA. She has roots in Portugal and describes herself as an ‘EVILGRL’ and ‘lattina NOT a latina’, whatever that may mean. Her DJ sets tend to fuse rap’s raw energy with genre-defying club sounds, creating shadowy beats and elusive melodies that captivate and challenge the dancefloor. Her soundscape is a cryptic ode to chaos and balance. She bends the rules, making her sets a puzzle for the dancefloor to unravel.
