ENS003 release party w/ Véronique Vincent & Aksak Maboul LIVE, Kong & Gratts, Benny Bang

concert
FR 01.04.2016 22:00

Onze Danses Pour Combattre La Migraine LP was recorded by Vincent Kenis and Marc Hollander in 1977 Brussels. Leapfrogging over style and genre boundaries, the LP shuffles between improvised jazz, minimalism, imaginary ethnic music, classical and even proto-techno (‘Saure Gurke’ foreshadows characteristic Detroit techno riffs by a good ten years). It became a cult album in its own right and a few decades later, the small Brussels/Berlin house label ensemble run by Kong & Gratts released two reworks off the LP by Parisian artist Krikor. Apart from the new ensemble 12 inch, the whole ‘Onze Danses Pour Combattre La Migraine’ LP recently saw a reissue, introducing the Aksak Maboul genius to a whole new generation of listeners. To celebrate the past and the future, ensemble + Aksak Maboul invite you to an evening of quality music ranging from 1977 until 2016.

➜ Véronique Vincent & Aksak Maboul (LIVE)

Live set by the new lineup of Aksak Maboul, reformed after 30 years following the release of their trailblazing avant-pop LP ‘Ex-Futur Album’, featuring Véronique Vincent (The Honeymoon Killers) and Marc Hollander (founder of Aksak Maboul and Crammed Discs) plus three people who weren't even born when these tracks were recorded: Sebastiaan Van den Branden (Amatorski), Erik Heestermans and Faustine Hollander.

➜ Kong & Gratts (extended 5h dj-set)

Gratts has spent the best part of two decades lugging bags of excellent records around Europe, and latterly Asia and Australia with increasing frequency. First biting the bug for good-time house, techno and disco in the late 90s, he honed his craft as part of the We Play House gang throughout the following decade, and began pushing out of his homeland around the 10s. His deep knowledge of groove-heavy, dancefloor-ready music affords him versatility – he’s as comfortable playing alongside Steffi and DJ Sprinkles as Alexander Nut and András Fox.

Kong has a weekly show on Belgian national radio Studio Brussel in which no nonsense house is the basic ingredient. Together with Gratts he runs the ensemble label and clubnights. They also compile the house music for the 22tracks.com platform, adding fresh underground finds on a weekly basis. During the day Kong works at the Studio Brussel office, during the night he holds a residency at Brussels party Catclub as well as playing at various clubs and parties around the country.

For the occasion, they’ll dig deep in their record collections to present you 5 hours worth of adventurous music to dance to.
