Brussels Parking Garage Dérive
In our time, and in our city, cars are both hated and loved, booming and going extinct. While cars are constantly debated, contested, and redesigned, parking garages remain strangely invisible. Visual artist Pieterjan Ginckels invites us to explore these overlooked back rooms of urban mobility together.
Don’t miss the BRUSSELS PARKING GARAGE DÉRIVE, a carpool daytrip around Brussels in which you, together with the artist, will stitch together a route through the city’s network of parking garages. Together, participants will draw a map of parking garages around Brussels, from which a route will be calculated. Along the way, you will exploit a curious loophole: garage entry tickets grant a fifteen-minute window in which you can leave again without parking. These “free” moments will determine the pace and rhythm of the trip.
No car? No problem! You can join with or without one. We will share vehicles, navigate Brussels together, document these disconnected urban nodes as we go and share our soundtrack.

MISANTHROPOZINE is an artist book series, disguised as an academic journal that walks-and-talks. The magazine explores the outer edges and inner contradictions of architecture as both discipline and cultural practice. Each issue operates like a curated detour—assembling essays, artefacts, souvenirs, and speculative theory to probe architecture’s entanglements with other domains. MISANTHROPOZINE wants to assemble work in such a way that its arguments bubble at the surface. This surface is a visual landscape, and exploring it means helping ferment theories and ways that collide with the problem — an ever moving "platform for cool criticality".

Pieterjan Ginckels (BE, 1982) is a Brussels‑based artist, architect, and professor at KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture. His practice dissects the accelerating pressures of contemporary life—branding, optimization, self‑curation—and reassembles them into spatial, performative, and participatory installations. Working as an embedded outsider, Ginckels folds the aesthetics and infrastructures of corporate culture into artistic production: sponsorship formats, uniforms, merch drops, and product launches become tools for exposing how contemporary identities and institutions are staged.
