Elke muzikant die vanavond het podium betreedt heeft zo’n lang en diepgaand onderzoekstraject met hun instrument(en) op de teller, dat het woord “improvisatie” de rijkdom van hun individuele skills niet dekt. Laat staan wanneer ze duister fonkelende nieuwe samenwerkingen aangaan.

Naar goede gewoonte presenteert Music On A Whim vanavond weer een dubbele dosis traditie die de toekomst inluidt. Traditionele instrumenten en veelknoppige elektronica om te ontdekken, herontdekken, deconstrueren, en weer opbouwen. Of zoals een wijze Brusselaar ooit zei: het leven is een eeuwige chantier en déviation. Improvisatie duurt het langst.

Sarathy & Cinna
Sarathy Korwar and Cinna Peyghamy come together for a rare performance exploring the electronic transformation of traditional percussion. In this collaborative set, both artists will engage a hybrid setup, channeling the sounds of the Indian tabla and the Persian tombak through guitar pedals and modular synthesis. Rooted in improvisational practices drawn from their respective musical heritages, Korwar and Peyghamy craft an evolving dialogue between rhythm and texture. The result is a dynamic sonic landscape where acoustic tradition and electronic experimentation converge—blurring boundaries, reshaping timbre, and forging new rhythmic possibilities in real time.

Monopoly Of Bells
Charles Dubois, Katya Shirshkova, Lukas De Clerck, and Clément Vercelletto are Monopoly Of Bells. They explore a shifting soundscape blending amplified breath and voice, pipes, modular synthesis and prepared drums. United by a desire to delve into composed forms, where the sound space and gestures are predetermined, and moments of improvised sonic fusion, the four musicians play a unique set of instruments: aulos (an extinct 'double oboe'), boha (bagpipes from Landes de Gascogne), prepared voice, drums and modular synthesiser. The quartet constructs their pieces empirically, exploring the intrinsic qualities of each instrument and each sound. Seeking to interweave the phasing timbres of blown and synthetic drones, they engage in an interplay of individual rhythms and metallic polyrhythms.
