You Sad Legend maakt deel uit van een continue performance samenwerking tussen visueel kunstenaar en filmmaker Wu Tsang en performance kunstenaar boychild, met de medewerking van experimenteel cellist Patrick Belaga.
De performance is een combinatie van een theatrale en nachtclubsfeer, waarbij verschillende vertelvormen aan bod komen, via een improvisatorische structuur met stem, beweging en muziekpartituren. In zijn huidige versie haalt You Sad Legend inspiratie uit Tangs recente film Duilian over de relatie tussen een beroemde historische Chinese dichteres, Qiu Jin, en haar dichte vriend, de kalligraaf Wu Zhiying.

WU TSANG is a visual artist, performer, and filmmaker. Her projects have been presented at museums and festivals internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Whitney Museum (NY), the Tate Modern (London), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), MCA (Chicago).
boychild is a Los Angeles-based performance artist. Her performances have been presented at MoMA PS1 (NY), the SFMOMA (San Francisco), the MCA (Chicago), Kulturhuset (Stockholm), MOCA (Los Angeles), MOMA (Warsaw), and Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam).
Patrick Belaga is a classically trained experimental cellist. He collaborated with Gus Van Sant on the soundtrack of his most recent film I AM MICHAEL (2015).
