Ken Jacobs hanteert in deze film de afwezigheid van montage als strategie. Hij presenteert het beeldmateriaal over de moord op Malcolm X zoals hij het zelf gevonden heeft, ruw en ongemonteerd. Maar de titel Perfect Film geeft het nieuwsmateriaal een ander kader, hercontextualiseert het, en maakt daardoor de schijnbaar onbewuste vorm weer zichtbaar.
