A bamboo moment
From 8th August until 30th September 2011, Globe Aroma, under the supervision of Roel and Frank Kerkhofs, together with newcomers to Brussels and neighbourhood residents from Sint-Gillis, built a square-filling bamboo construction as the pedestal for a notional monument. This was located at the intersection of the Wipstraat, Willem Tellstraat, Gisbert Combazstraat and the Vorstsesteenweg. Due to a permanent presence and work at the location, they were able to search out special moments, which five times resulted in a ‘Moment Monument’. In this the base was always the link between the square, the user and the event.
Conté Morlaye, a new arrival from Guinea, was the significant reporter during this project. In collaboration with PTTL a publication was presented in the Pianofabriek in April 2012, which incorporated a selection of his drawings as separate numbered stencils. These illustrations are also the trigger for a collection of texts which accompany the publication. At one and the same time various snippets are shown which were once part of the project. All of this is an attempt to create an image during the 10th-anniversary event of a project which is no longer visible on that spot in Sint-Gillis.
