When humans wage war, the landscape suffers injury. What would a piece of land with a bomb crater in it have to say? How can we humans hear the voices of the animals, plants, stones and soil when the explosions finally stop, and pass on their stories? null & void is a legal term and means as much as ‘worthless, without legal force’. Here, it describes a half-human performer's lonely attempt in a desolate landscape to listen to the forgotten, neglected and silenced voices of non-human beings. On a soundscape of (not just) white noise, Agata Siniarska searches for extinct and/or not yet existing organs of perception to see more and hear more. In the process, she also seems to ask herself (and us) whether there is still room for humans in a world ravaged by war.

null & void premiered at the summer festival for new performing arts Tanz im August in Berlin, 2023.

About

Agata Siniarska describes herself as a ‘fictional character with many talents and a criminal past’ and sounds like a Polish artist living in Berlin. She creates art in the form of performances, events, practices, lectures, video and, according to recently confirmed rumours, experimental noise music. In her choreographies, she focuses on the tension between movement and idea. How do we think about the world? How do we move in it? In doing so, ecofeminist critique of the anthropocene is a clear source of inspiration - both for theoretical frameworks and for costumes of uncanny prosthetics, bizarre rat make-up and reptilian corsets. In 2013, Agata co-founded the feminist fun collective Female Trouble, and together with bass guitar-electronica duo rat milk, she performs as a noise vocalist under the semi-secret alias TATARI (for fans of Merzbow). Agata's multiform work has been shown all over Europe, mixing fact with fiction, deep (theoretical) research with concrete community actions, white noise with political urgency.
