For the second time in a row Art Brussels and the Beursschouwburg are inviting a Turner Prize winner. This time Elizabeth Price presents three short films: Woolworths Choir of 1979, The Tent, At the House of Mr. X.
In 2012, the Londoner, Elizabeth Price (1966), won the Turner Prize for her exhibition Here, which consists of three video installations. Price’s work examines the consumption culture using archive material; this includes tragic images of a Manchester furniture store blaze in 1979 in which ten people lost their lives.
The jury lauded Price for her ‘seductive and immersive’ video installations. “Her carefully constructed films plunge us into virtual spaces, which she composes using cultural waste from the material world”, it states. In the ‘80s Elizabeth Price formed an alternative pop group, Talulah Gosh. Music also features in her artistic work, where it is combined with moving images and text.
The Turner Prize represents the major British award in contemporary art. The prize is awarded to a British artist, under the age of 50, for the best exhibition of the past year. The award carries a cash prize of ₤25,000.
