Oliver Ressler (Austria, 1970) has become internationally known for his work in film and installations that consistently probe a wide variety of socio-political and economic issues such as global capitalism, the banking and economic crisis, democracy & citizenship and global warming.
As a politically engaged artist Ressler has also been committed to doing on-site research to analyse economic conditions and forms of political organizing in different places in the world. Many of his works are thus also concerned with forms of resistance, activist practices and social alternatives such as the Occupy movement and anti-globalist protest. He pursues alternative approaches to existing systems of power, presenting them as viable options in films, photographs and installations. Ressler has participated in more than 150 exhibitions and biennials and has also received the 1st prize of the International Media Art Award of the ZKM in Karlsruhe.
Ressler will show two films that centre on issues related to the economy, the financial crisis, privatization and the current capitalist malaise.
