1. Making pamphlets to claim the city
w/ Lisa Matthys & Annelies Vaneycken
@ beurscafé

The kids in Jean Harlez’s 1950s film Le chantier des gosses, just like the 2000s kids in Under the Pavement, the Beach, claimed a terrain vague (vacant lot) as their own playground, and lost it when the site was redeveloped and the city further built up. Fortunately, the story of the children of Rasquinet Park in the 1970s had a different outcome: after nearly twenty years of campaigning — with playful demonstrations, balloons, protest posters and countless letters to the municipality of Schaerbeek — their playground on the site of a former factory became a green public park.Today, urban planning still pays too little attention to the preservation and creation of outdoor space for children. Where are the open, public spaces where they can play freely and invent their own games? Do kids still have opportunities to use vacant lots for adventure play?

2. Outdoor atelier
w/ ABC (Art Basics for Children)
@ Rode Hal + outdoors yay!

Being out and about, walking and getting lost, collecting stories or pebbles, crossing the road and seeing the street from a different perspective. We’ve gathered all sorts of outdoor exploration materials in the Red Hall. Drop by, borrow something and go exploring the city yourself. Look for places to sit, tell stories or play, discover holes in the wall, make a beautiful print or find a house that winks at you. Collect all the blue rubbish or 7 different plants among the cobblestones, draw the horizon line whilst lying down and make up stories about passers-by, …
