Condor Gruppe & Tine Guns

A desolate Anspachlaan on a hot summer afternoon. In the middle of the street, level with the Beurs, is a man with a huge Colt pistol at the ready. As the McDonald’s swing-doors open, his rival saunters outside. Tourists flee into their hotel and a clump of tumbleweed blows past.

And then … Condor Gruppe launches into its first number. We couldn’t imagine a better setting (although we don’t mean to imply that Condor Gruppe only fits into the category of Spaghetti Western)! The band assembled around Michiel Van Cleubergen are the champions in the league of alternative mystic guitar rock. In our opinion this is one of the most refreshing Belgian projects of the last year.

For CINEMATEK’s 75th birthday Condor Gruppe amasses its powers with cinematographer Tine Guns (What’s in a name!) who complements this concert with narrative and visual input. Guns’ work is positioned within the domain of memories, archives and time. For the occasion she delves into Cinematek’s archive and unearths long-lost films. The discoveries by this audiovisual adventurer fit perfectly with Condor Gruppe’s psychedelic and obscure side.

Public Service Broadcasting

A London duo that gets to work with yellowed Government information films, archive pictures and propaganda material from a somewhat unappealing past. Their motto? Teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future.

Take an old television set with noise, colour bars, vintage spots and add live drums,s guitar, banjo, some electronics and the spoken word, And there you have it, the recipe for the great British band of J. Willgoose, Esq. and Wrigglesworth (pseudonym, obviously). The addition of the original images to their skillfully edited material results in their live shows being a unique experience. The duo affectionately call the old sixties TV the band’s front man.

Public Service Broadcasting has just released its début album Inform – Educate – Entertain. And that is just the reason why they are coming to the Beursschouwburg: “to Inform, Educate and, most importantly, Entertain”.
