Since the #MeToo movement, cisgender men have been increasingly held accountable and called to action urged to reflect on what it means to be a man and to become better allies to women and those affected by male oppression and patriarchy.

But do men actually care? If so, what do they care about, and how do they show it? This discussion on masculinities, deconstruction, and care delves into the evolving understanding of masculinity in contemporary society. By encouraging open dialogue, the discussion seeks to promote a more inclusive approach to deconstructing male privilege and redefining masculinity. It emphasizes the importance of accountability and introduces new perspectives on what it means to care, urging men to embrace vulnerability, empathy, and shared responsibilities, ultimately paving the way for more balanced and equitable relationships.

Our invitee Hugo and his guests freely discuss, debate and dream in the cozy beurscafé. We have pouffes, we have tea and we have time. This is a free event; no registration is needed and no pre-knowledge is required - come as you are!!

Maxime Cowez is co-founder of Parle de toi si t'es un homme, a discussion circle on masculinities from an anti-sexist and anti-patriarchal perspective, happening every month at the Tipi workshop in Ixelles for over two years. These circles are open to everyone. They are mainly aimed at men (cis or trans), but welcome anyone who wants to share their views on this important and fascinating subject. These spaces aim to talk about ourselves, how we feel, and how we experience being a man, while questioning our place in a society governed by male domination (and the violence it causes). Over time, he has learned a great deal about subjects such as collective intelligence, transformative justice, testicular contraception and the fight against sexist and sexual violence in party environments. Maxime also works as an animator in the self-governed youth center of Louvain-La-Neuve called "Chez Zelle".

Jean-Gabriel Tshangala, also known as Kabote, is an author and mental health advocate. Kabote tries to open the conversation around mental health in the African community through his daily life and art. As a black man evolving in Europe, the question of identity and self-love are core matters of his values.
BLACK MEN SHARING is a reflective platform that allows Black Men to openly share psychosocial topics through discussions. Black Men Sharing represents this individually lived experience of emotional openness and introspective questioning, but for which a concrete name had not been given. This experience goes through the communication of one's sorrows and emotions, which is basically a deeply individual process. However, for Black Men Sharing, by providing a space to do so, the individual experience becomes collective, it is an individuality that is part of the collective.
