Let’s talk about trans health care: what already exists—and what we can create. w/ Baxter M. Halter, Olave Nduwanje & Effir Libilbéhéty
18:00 doors
in FR & EN
Outside of institutions, what’s happening within our communities regarding health care? We should discuss practical situations, tips, and habits openly among ourselves. What tools do we need to create? What do we want to build? How does innovation by and for trans health care work? How do we understand what continues to divide us? And, what can we dream of—to stay united and strengthen the health of our communities?
Our host, Baxter, and their guests freely discuss, debate and dream in the cozy beurscafé. We have pouffes, we have tea and we have time. This is a free event; no registration and pre-knowledge are required - come as you are!
about
Olave Nduwanje (40), born in Burundi and raised in the diaspora, is a Black trans woman who writes. She has made literary contributions to Zwart-Afro-europese literatuur uit de Lage Landen (2018), De Goede Immigrant (2020), and Being Imposed Upon (2020). Additionally, she has published several times in De Standaard, OneWorld Magazine, and NRC Handelsblad. Her writing career so far has been characterized by short-term projects (columns, articles, literary contributions to anthologies, readings, etc.). She aims to break away from this pattern in the coming years and focus on two major projects: a play (working title Een Bubbel van Vijf) and a novel about death.
Effir Libilbéhéty (30) is a trans designer and community organizer. Their practice forces reflection on what is socially de/re/constructed. Flirting with themes such as queer bodies, collectivities, kink and DIY cultures, they carry out spatial works, object design and grassroots actions. In recent years, their work has specifically explored how trans* identities are perceived through the lens of deviance and how this shapes our relationships with public and social spaces. This, through the production of a database of safeR health praticioners (2023), writings on regional anarchism (2022), a dungeon on cognitive domination (2021), the Trans*Inter march (2022), the Trans Solidarity Funds Belgium (ongoing). Their new project is a series of door handles in the shape of anal plugs, questioning the forced/public exposure of trans intimacies and bodies.
Baxter M. Halter is a performer, music composer, occasional DJ, writer, and videast. Through their work, they research important concepts such as Gender Trouble, Deconstruction, Care, Transidentity, and Masculinity. On these topics, Baxter has made podcasts with Fondation Kanal and hosts the monthly Talk From Homografia show on Radio Panik, making them a vital voice both for and within their community. Baxter works also a curator for queer festivals such as Festival Homografia, Brussels Porn Film Festival and SNAP! Festival.
