Although in 2013 it will be 150 years ago that slavery was officially abolished in the Netherlands, thousands of people are still systematically exploited in the Low Countries. Think of female trafficking, prostitution and illegal seasonal labour. Combating modern slavery is proving to be exceptionally difficult. Why? Lack of legislation? Or is our western world impossible without slavery?
