Fela Gucci and Desire Marea are FAKA, a culturally diverse duo from Johannesburg who entered the realm of performance art in 2015. Their practice has since expanded to include music, fashion, literature, video, photography and eclectic live combinations of all of the above. The common thread in their work is their vision of what it’s like to live your life in a black and queer body in the cis-heterotopia of Africa. Since the release of their EP Amaqhawe in 2017 they’ve toured the world with their multidisciplinary practice. Now they’re coming to Beursschouwburg to perform their artistic vision of ‘the complexity of love and romance within the black queer experience, with songs about self love, unrequited love, childhood love and transactional love’.
