How can we learn from a forest or the species that inhabit it? Since 2018, Selvagem has fostered dialogue between Indigenous and non-indigenous forms of knowledge, art, and science. Co-founded by Ailton Krenak and Anna Dantes, it supports Escolas Vivas, a network of schools and initiatives that envision regenerative ways of being in the world and remind us that every natural extinction results in a loss of knowledge. As part of The School of Fireflies and the AFIELD Forum: Transitional Justice by Artists, Selvagem creates a temporary space for learning through embodied practices, readings, exercises, and moments of reflection. Guests include anthropologist Francy Fontes Baniwa, philosopher and writer from the Maxakali people Cristine Takuá, and Carlos Papá, who works with the Guarani language and enchantments of the forest. Over three days, the school will explore several guiding themes—how to learn from other forms of life, Indigenous narratives on the origins of the world, and a dialogue about movement and dance that intertwines Baniwa’s studies on corporeality with the practice of choreographer Lia Rodrigues. The school is open to everyone, offering a journey into imagined futures and new ways of learning, where the boundaries between human and non-human dissolve in thought.
