An exploration of the image politics of Islamist recruiting videos.
The visual language of Islamic recruitment videos responds to an aesthetic that appeals to young people growing up in Europe, while the content is shocking. Using material obtained by German security services, Rabih Mroué investigates what the videos reveal about their makers and what kind of power they have for winning over young people to Islamic propaganda.
Rabih Mroué not only ask questions about the underlying strategies and methods employed by Islamist recruiters, but also about how societies handle or respond to such propaganda.
