Collectively reading the works of Reni Eddo-Lodge, Albert Camus and Chinua Achebe.

w/ Bledarte

For this trilogy of Reading Group sessions we’re taking inspiration from the short film Survive by Gerald Machona, which can be viewed in our Black Box from 24 to 27 April. Books play a prominent role in this video: books read by South African students during the period of the Fallist protests (an activist movement in which South African students called for the decolonisation of the educational system).

We asked Bledarte (an intersectional feminist collective) to pour over the list of books and arrive at an intriguing selection. As a group we’ll be discussing the books they picked out. A fascinating discussion from a feminist perspective!

Reading? Best to come prepared. All the books are available at the Muntpunt library. Be sure to check out their project: Dekoloniseren is een werkwoord! (‘Decolonise is a doing word!’) If all the copies at the Muntpunt are already taken out, you can drop by the Beursschouwburg; we’ve got one copy of each book. Contact if you’d like to read our copy. Eating? Thinking and talking takes a lot of energy. We’ll provide the food! Understanding? We want to do our best to make sure that everyone understands everything. We’ll state the working language of each reading group, but we’ll also do our best to translate into Dutch, French and English where required.
