An online summit of pre-recorded talks, live discussions and experimental performances will be streamed Europe-wide. What is the state of freedom today? w/ freiraumfestival.eu & Goethe-Institut Brüssel

“What is the state of freedom today in (post-)corona Europe?” The Freiraum Festival will attempt to answer this key question through a series of online and live events*. Organised by the Goethe-Institut from 30 October to 1 November as part of Germany’s Presidency of the EU Council, the event brings together partners in culture and the arts, the research community and civil society from 42 European cities.

In Brussels, BOZAR will open the festival on Friday on 30 October. The following day, the festival will be hosted by Beursschouwburg:

SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER (1:30-10:00 pm) - Beursschouwburg

- 1:30 pm: Opening and greeting

Manifesto: Symbolic and artistic reading of the “Freiraum Manifesto” elaborated by all European partners of the project by slam poet Samira Saleh

- 2.00 – 7:00 pm: Live Broadcasting of the Freiraum Online-Summit in Beurscafé
Comments and discussion about the online Freiraum summit with Karl Van den Broeck (Apache.be). Moderation: Bouchra Lamsyeh

- 6.00-8.30 pm: Big Conversation on Freedom of the press in Europe 
Nine tables with one expert and nine guests, one topic per table, two rounds and an intense debate on the topic of freedom of the press.
