Un complot dévoilé, une faute commise, invitent au scandale. Dans l'esprit de la révolution ou des rêveries romantiques, les scandales provoquent un imaginaire de l'impossible. Qu'il soit utopique ou banal, comment le scandale révèle-t-il ce qui se cache au plus près de nos fantasmes ? Et que dit-il sur les limites que la société s’impose ? Si la vie est un scandale en attente d'être tramé, comment nous positionner dans cette matrice ? Par son immoralité et son inconvenance, le scandale est un incident qui invite au plaisir et au fantasme. En s'interrogeant sur le prix à payer pour ce plaisir et à ce·lles·ux à qui il s'adresse, la nouvelle intrigue de Lewis explore une scène ou les scandales abondent. 

Tissant ensemble des récits historiques, anecdotiques, politiques et mythiques, allant d'un intérêt pour le penseur des Lumières John Locke, Maria Olofa (Wolofa) et la révolte des esclaves de Saint-Domingue en 1521, l'artiste et révolutionnaire cubain José Aponte, et la propre arrière-grand-mère de la chorégraphe (vers laquelle elle se tourne pour guider sa résistance) Lewis construit une poétique du refus aux confins de la représentation. Telle une danse entre l'affect et l'incarnation, le fait de voir et d'être vu, A Plot/A Scandal est une mise-en-scène en devenir, dont l’inconvenance excite.

LIGIA LEWIS travaille en tant que chorégraphe et danseuse. Dans son travail, les métaphores sonores et visuelles rencontrent le corps, et viennent matérialiser l'énigme, la poésie et la dissonance. Le travail de Lewis évoque toutes les nuances de l'incarnation. Son travail a été présenté dans de multiples lieux en Europe et aux États-Unis. Elle a été dirigée et produite par le HAU Hebbel am Ufer Theater de 2017 à 2021 et a été artiste de la tanzhaus nrw factory de 2017 à 2019. Elle est lauréate du prix Tabori dans la catégorie Distinction, d'un prix de subvention de la Fondation pour les arts contemporains et d'un Bessie Award pour une Production Exceptionnelle.

Cherish Menzo is a choreographer and dancer, who lives in Brussels and Amsterdam. In 2013 she graduated from The Urban Contemporary (JMD) at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam. After her graduation, Cherish has appeared in the work of Lisbeth Gruwez, Jan Martens, Nicole Beutler, Eszter Salamon, Benjamin Kahn, Akram Khan and others. Her powerful movement language also comes into its own in her own work, which tours internationally. Cherish seeks out forms of movement and being, while placing beauty and the grotesque on an equal footing. She consciously seeks out an alienating effect to guide both the viewer and herself away from the known, and floats between the nostalgia of 90s and 00s hip-hop and the realms of industrial hip-hop, rap lyrics, manga and speculative fiction. In 2019 Cherish worked at Frascati Producties on JEZEBEL, a dance performance inspired by the phenomenon Video Vixen from the hip-hop clips of the 90s earlier 00’s. In 2022, during Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, her latest performance DARKMATTER premiered at Beursschouwburg, a duet in which she and Camilo Mejía Cortés search for ways to detach their bodies and the daily reality in which they move from a forced perception. Cherish is one of the four artistic leaders of the dance organization GRIP, together with Femke Gyselinck, Jan Martens and Steven Michel.
