Voilà l’histoire d’une machine qui ne se nomme pas elle-même et produit des images qui peuvent rendre malade, qui donnent la nausée. Avalée par certains puissants, faiseurs de médias et distributeurs de culture, elle reproduit ses stéréotypes auprès de générations de nouveau regards. Mais tous ne sont pas égaux devant ces images. Les jeunes noirs de France n’y trouvent pas les réponses à leurs questions. A force de cacher leur reflet dans le grand miroir culturel, cette machine avalée nourrit notre colère. Finirait-elle par travailler à sa propre perte ?

Une vidéo autobiographique prenant pour point de départ la participation de mon père, comme figurant guyanais, dans le film français nommé Jean Galmot, aventurier (1990). En rejouant une partie du film, nous essayons moi et mon père de révéler des voix recouvertes par la mise en scène du film.

The ΜΑΛΘΑ Archive is a video essay that tampers with and speculates on cultural memory. Departing from mainstream Greek imagery and the subsequent hegemonic subjugation of those who do not fit a ‘Greek imaginary’, the ΜΑΛΘΑ Archive works to affirm the presence of people with African descent in Greece, and demonstrates how a fluid identity is shaped by the ‘afterlife of antiquity’
