Deborah Stratman is a Chicago-based filmmaker who has been active since the 1990s. A multidisciplinary artist, she has directed nearly forty works that question social codes using unconventional cinematic devices. She reflects transversally on history, mythology, science, technology, and security and surveillance mechanisms.
Between documentary essay and experimental cinema, Stratman’s films present dense research and function through free association. The result is poetic and free-flowing works that are not without a systematic political relationship to reality.
Deborah Stratman’s work has been presented internationally at prestigious venues such as the Whitney Biennial, MOMA, and the Centre Georges-Pompidou. Her films have also been widely screened at most major international festivals. She is currently an associate professor at the School of Art & Art History at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

SoundImageCulture (SIC) est un laboratoire créatif basé à Bruxelles où cinéastes, artistes et anthropologues développent leurs projets de film. Tout au long d’un parcours intensif d’un an, les participant·e·s bénéficient de retours collectifs, d’un accompagnement individuel et de masterclasses dans un cadre ouvert et stimulant. SIC brouille les frontières entre documentaire, fiction et essai, et encourage un récit poétique et sensoriel qui bouscule les conventions et donne un nouveau souffle au cinéma.
