Five bodies rest on stage, as objects on the floor. For a moment, everything is quiet. Suddenly one of the bodies tips out of balance. From that point on, there is no way back. One body bumps into the next, setting an irreversible course in motion. The opening motion continues to be passed throughout the entire length of the performance. Impulse after impulse is created as if by accident. New combinations and surprising transitions challenge the audience’s expectations. Dominos and Butterflies pictures both a relentless catastrophe and a complexly designed machinery in which the forces of nature are compelled to do the work. Choreography turns into step-by-step problem solving, when each constellation of bodies conditions the possibilities for the next movement. Dance is revealed – literally – as a chain reaction of attraction and repulsion.
