Horaizon, Meggy Rustamova, 2021, 11’ (première)

In tijden waarin de ecologische confrontatie tussen natuur en mens een point of no return heeft bereikt, suggereren veel wetenschappers dat de huidige gebeurtenissen een gevolg zijn van het binnendringen van de mens in de natuur, die te veel ruimte op deze planeet inneemt. Nu miljoenen mensen in grote steden wonen, zijn we geneigd te vergeten hoe belangrijk natuur en landschappen zijn voor het menselijk welzijn. In Horaizon reizen toeristen over grenzen op zoek naar sublieme landschappen, terwijl ze paradoxaal genoeg een spoor achterlaten die deze wonderen der natuur onvermijdelijk vernietigt. De film is opgenomen op verschillende locaties over de hele wereld: onder andere in België, IJsland, Arizona en New York.  De horizons, zonsondergangen en weersomstandigheden tussen deze plaatsen vormen de rode draad van de film.

Ritual introduces an alternative fragile relationship with the world. The character moves slowly in an empty field surrounded by vertical branch drawings that remind us of human figures and archaic structures. She adapts and nurtures an alternative society that has the potential to become a forest.

Where there is no point deals with the perception of the sea by people who crossed it, aiming for a better future. After the difficulties people faced on the sea, do they look at it in a different way?

WIE ?

Meggy Rustamova (°1985), geboren in Tbilisi, Georgië, woont en werkt in Brussel en Sint-Niklaas. Ze behaalde haar Master Beeldende Kunst aan het KASK in Gent (2006-2011), studeerde aan de Universität der Künste in Berlijn (2010) en voltooide de postgraduaatsopleiding aan het HISK (2012-2013). De voorbije jaren ontwikkelde Meggy Rustamova een interdisciplinair oeuvre bestaande uit fotografisch werk, video's, installaties en performances. Haar werk biedt een uitgesproken poëtische kijk op de relatie tussen individueel en collectief geheugen, tussen taal als communicatiemiddel en visueel vocabulaire. Ze zoekt naar manieren om hedendaagse sociale tendensen en kwesties te vertalen naar haar eigen werk, vaak aan de hand van microgeschiedenissen. De schoonheid van haar vaak optimistisch ogende beelden verbergt een zekere melancholie of een verlangen naar utopie.

Aisha Adepoju was born in Germany (1995) and studied documentary film at RITCS in Brussels. Photography, illustrations and images from daily life are important sources of inspiration for her work. Her research on media brings her to explore new and more interactive ways to approach the social and artistic worlds.

Paulius Šliaupa, born in Vilnius, Lithuania (1990), holds a BA in painting and an MFA in contemporary sculpture from the Vilnius Academy of Arts as well as an MFA in media arts from KASK, Ghent. His works explore the relationships between culture and nature; the interaction of ambience and light that affect our daily lives. From video installations and experimental film to objects and paintings, his work encompasses a wide range of artistic media.

Emanuele Dainotti (Italy, 1987) is an artist and filmmaker whose work has been exhibited and awarded in many exhibitions and film festivals such as Museum of the Moving Image (USA), Louvre Museum (France); FIVAC (Cuba), Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rencontres Internationales Paris (France) among others. He currently lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.

Dagmar Dirkx (°1993) studeerde kunstgeschiedenis aan de KU Leuven in België. Dagmar schreef kritieken en essays voor De Witte Raaf, Metropolis M en rekto:verso. Als auteur en kunsthistorica werkt ze regelmatig in opdracht van kunstenaars en culturele instellingen zoals STUK Huis voor Dans, Beeld en Geluid of CIAP Kunstverein. Als onderzoekscurator voert Dagmar een kunsthistorisch onderzoeksproject uit over videokunst in België tijdens de jaren zeventig voor het ARGOS centrum voor audiovisuele kunsten in Brussel.
