When fictionalising possible futures, artists’ strategies can resemble those of science fiction writers. After a century in which art and literature were discussed in terms of deconstruction and critique, when utopian ideas collapsed, the time has come to start imagining different worlds again. What kind of strategies could be at stake in doing so? This final day of reflection will be centred on the idea of speculation. The discussion will focus on a reflection on art as a tool to imagine a variety of possible futures.

Kris Verdonck’s sculpture project FIGURES will no longer take place, as it was impossible to obtain the necessary permissions for occupying a piece of public space needed for the project. Kris Verdonck will remain on the festival program with the performance EXIT.
