Portrait of an East L.A. bar that has catered to the local Latin/LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) community.
“All anyone can do is show up… and refuse to go away.”
Wildness is a portrait of “The Silver Platter”, a legendary East L.A. bar that has catered to the local latin/LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) community since 1963. Welcomed by owner Mr. Ramirez, the bar also functions as a sanctuary for the many illegal Mexican transgenders. The film captures the creativity and conflict that ensues when a group of young ‘queer’ artists, among them director Wu Tsang, start organizing weekly performance parties called “Wildness”. Every Tuesday they inject the somewhat sleepy bar with a big dose of electricity and pumping beats by Total Freedom and Nguzunguzu. Coalitions are forged regardless of generations, class and sex.
