Yiri? Yiri! BOOM! A year and a half after their album debut, Brussels-based afro groove formation M.CHUZI launches a stunner of an EP.

On 10 May, M.CHUZI takes over Beursschouwburg for the funk, afrobeat and world groove soiree of the year. Alongside your favourite Brussels groove sauce in a live and DJ set, the Cologne power ensemble Muito Kaballa will enchant the evening before DJ Rafael Aragon heads into the night with a selection of worldly beats.

Groove machine and SoundTrack Laureate (2019) M.CHUZI (BXL) makes world-wise sauce based on melting pot à la bruxelloise. A spicy mix of afro grooves, funk, prog jazz and the spacy soundscape of a metropole. M.CHUZI smothers every stage with catchy musical experiments in an authentic fashion. Drummer Jan Heirman and Bass Man Niels d’Haegheleer form a basis, sauce chefs Basile Bourtembourg (keys), Gil Duarte Da Cruz (guitar) and Band Man Thomas De Vries (guitar) flavour the whole and the ultimate touch is delivered by a horn section with Mattéo Badet (tenor saxophone), Robbe Latré (trumpet & Flügelhorn) and Martin Lissoir (baritone saxophone). With members from Azmari, Okkupeerder and NAFT.

Muito Kaballa is an ensemble based in Cologne that draws its music from a variety of influences. Afrobeat, jazz, soul, hip hop, samba, and rumba are among the sources of their inspiration, creating a unique sound that the band refers to as Hybrid Grooves. Their music is versatile, ranging from "easy listening" to "hard-hitting." However, to truly understand what Muito Kaballa means by Hybrid Grooves , one must experience their live concerts. With high-energy performances, choreography, and showmanship, they get the audience dancing and sweating, but they also create thoughtful and intimate moments for reflec- tion and sing-alongs (bring lighters!). Overall, it's a rollercoaster ride that, like the music of Muito Kaballa, has many unexpected twists and turns and is definitely worth experiencing!
