Nous remontons dans le temps jusqu’en 2002, une année bénie: Baehr et Wheeler viennent alors présenter Holding Hands au Beursschouwburg. Lors de make up le duo refranchit la scène, munis de leurs onze années de maturité. Holding hands est la première pièce d’une trilogie sur l’expression des émotions. Deux interprètes sont face au public, main dans la main, quasi immobiles, tel un organisme unique mais doté de deux personnalités. Presque rien n’arrive mais ce qui se produit est d’une précision absolue. Un mélodrame dont on a supprimé tout élément narratif se déroule sur leur visage. Lentement, cette apparition d’émotions sans cause ni effet repérable devient paysage, dont la contemplation renvoie le spectateur à lui-même dans cette activité du regard, silencieuse, qui se laisse lire sur son propre visage.
